2024 Election Recap: Victories, Challenges, and the Fight for Equality

The 2024 election season has been a defining moment for Equality NC and our partners in the fight for justice and equality across North Carolina. From widespread Get-Out-The-Vote (GOTV) campaigns to coalition-building against extremist threats, we’ve demonstrated resilience and unity in the face of opposition.

A Breakdown of Our Electoral Success

Equality NC proudly supported candidates dedicated to equality and inclusion, achieving notable victories:

  • Local Races: 73% win rate (22 wins out of 30 races)
  • House Races: 59% win rate (22 wins out of 37 races)
  • Senate Races: 46% win rate (6 wins out of 13 races)
  • Council of State (COS): 50% win rate (5 wins out of 10 races)
  • Judicial Races: Despite significant challenges, we continue to fight for fair representation.

Representation Matters

Our efforts have increased representation for historically marginalized communities:

  • LGBTQ+ Candidates: 100% win rate, solidifying our presence in decision-making spaces.
  • Women: 58% win rate, marking progress toward gender parity.
  • People of Color (POC): 58% win rate, amplifying diverse voices in leadership.

Coalition Building and Mobilization

Equality North Carolina collaborated with key allies throughout this election cycle, especially through our work with the Coalition Against Robinson’s Extremism, to counter anti-equality narratives and energize voters. Together, we:

  • Mobilized thousands of voters through direct outreach and canvassing efforts.
  • Hosted town halls and educational events to inform voters about extremist policies threatening equality.
  • Provided voter resources and tools to simplify registration and access to polls.

The Fight for Judicial Integrity: Judge Allison Riggs

One of the most critical challenges we face is ensuring the rightful certification of Judge Allison Riggs, a champion for fairness and justice. Equality North Carolina stands firmly in her corner despite attempts to undermine her confirmation.
